''She was the heir of ash and fire, and she would bow to no one.''
I always wanted to read something like this.Something beautifull and at the same time sad.Something full of action, but at the same time magical.A story about a lost girl trying to regain her throne, her life and to give her people what they deserve:freedom.
The first book from these series was only the beginning of something huge, the beginning of an adventure full of magic, secrets, betrayal, love and ,finally, revenge. The second book was about understanding a part of what was happening and how everything was supossed to happen in order for the girl to understand that in life everything has a purpose. But the third book..It was the beginning of something bigger:truth and lies, all revealed.Alliances.Blood Oaths.True Kings and Queens. The beginning of War between two powerfull people. The meaning of Magic and how to release it.
This book-it was brilliant and unique. It was the best book from this series and i know that even if i've read this,i know something huge will happen in Queen Of Shadows-or at least that what i hope.
I thought that i knew everything about Celaena,Chaol and Dorian.I thought that it will be easy for me think that everything will be easy and that Celaena's plans won't be so damn crazy. But,god,it was absolutely crazy..The truth ?I loved every single moment.
Finding out everything about her past-about what happened to her parents, about her magic and all those things she kept inside her, made me realize that she was stronger than it thought.
But now?I understand her decisons and i understand why Chaol in Crown of Midnight did everything he could to send her to Wendly, even if he didn't know the truth about her.
“You collect scars because you want proof that you are paying for whatever sins you've committed. And I know this because I've been doing the same damn thing for two hundred years. Tell me, do you think you will go to some blessed Afterworld, or do you expect a burning hell? You're hoping for hell--because how could you face them in the Afterworld? Better to suffer, to be damned for eternity and--”
This time we get the chance to read about Celaena's past.A past full of hard memories filled with pain and endless sadness.About doubt and regret.About survival and need to forget everything,or at least put those memories somewhere in her mind and never reach them again.
Hard, but i guess it was a part of those plans ..
Well, once again i can say that i'm shocked.A lot of things happened and i don't even know with what to begin. It was crazy! But absolutly worth it.
This book is more than i expected and it was full of surprises:new characters, new plans and horror. But the action? It was the best thing i've read!
I loved how the characters evolved-how Celaena evolved. She managed to do everything she could to transform herself in someone else, someone who everyone was expecting for,And it was truly amazing how she managed to accept her faith.
“She realized that Rowan saw each of those thoughts and more as he reached into his tunic and pulled out a dagger. Her dagger. He extended it to her, it's long blade gleaming as if he'd been secretly polishing and caring for it these months.
And when she grasped the dagger, it's weight lighter than she remembered, Rowan looked into her eyes, into her very core of her, and said, 'Fireheart'.”
What happened in Mistward, the place where Celaena finally accepted what she had to do,was hard and ,i admit that i laughed a few times, funny.Because there Celaena finally met someone who wasn't afraid to give her a part of what she was giving.
Rowan Whitethorn.Oh,how i love that guy!Yeah, like all the guys form this series,he was a little too hard to like at the beginning and i kind of hated him,but step by step he managed to make me like him.And a lot!He was the reason why Celaena never gave up and the reason why she managed to enter Doranelle. He was the reason why Celaena transformed step by step in this book. And it was the best thing that could have happen to her.
Let me tell you something:Rowan is stubborn ,hardheaded, secretive and a little hard to impress. But when ice melts and he is beginning to reveal more about himself,i started to like him even more! And the fact that he didn't give up on her..Well,i guess he saw something in her, something worth fighting for.
But while Celaena was looking for the truth about the Wyrdgates and Wyrdkeys,in Adarlan everyone was trying to help her somehow.
Chaol.Dorian.And a few new characters:Aedion,Sorscha,Ren..
“He would see that world reborn, even if it took his last breath. Even if he had no name now, no position or title save Oath-Breaker, Traitor, Liar.”
Chaol-i knew from the beginning that i will never be dissapointed of everything he'll do in order to help Celaena.Even if i know that everything changed between them,Chaol will always be one of my favorites. In this book he showed that he was capable of everything and that his path was clearly set on helping Dorian and Celaena. But the end?I was so afraid for him and i hoped that nothing will happen to him.You know what i wanted to do?Shake him so bad until he could understand that he had to trust Dorian..But the end of the book?Again,i write about that..The end of the book ?I'm still shocked, but i'm glad that he finally understood who was his true King.
''When Dorian had spoken, it hadn’t been a prince who looked at him. It had been a king.”
Dorian?I guess sometimes i wonder what will happen to him after everything is over.Honestly,in this book i was really proud of everything i've read about him.Don't ask why..It is hard to say,but i guess the fact that he was determined to do everything he could to stop his father made me realize that he was exactly what the Adarlan needed. And Chaol knew that.Even if the friendship between them was dying slowly.
And now finally:
“Handsome was a light way of describing what Aedion was. Overwhelming was more like it. Towering and heavily muscled, Aedion was every inch the warrior rumor claimed him to be.”
Aedion-i thought that i will hate that guy,but slowly i got the chance to discover the truth about him ,about what he was doing and why he was doing those things. He was fierce and determined.Loyal and full of surprises.
About the other characters i don't know what so say much..Sorscha was a pleaseant surprise and i liked her.Her time with Dorian was amazing, but i'm sad now after i've read the end.Ren i stil a mystery for me,so i don't have much to say about him.
The King?I still hate him.A lot!
I admit that i didn't understand why suddenly there were chapters about the witches, about Manon Blackbeack. But her chapters were full of strange moments and i hope,a lot, that somehow in the next book good things will happen. In a way i admit that i liked Manon-stubborn ,but she knew what she wanted.Even if she didn't understand a few things .
''She would light up the darkness, so brightly that all who were lost or wounded or broken would find their way to it, a beacon for those who still dwelled in that abyss. It would not take a monster to destroy a monster—but light, light to drive out darkness.''
Everything in this book made me so damn happy that i decided to read this series. It was an adventure full of surprises and i know that in the future something huge will happen, something that i can't wait to read.
Celaena's future changed after everything that happened and now that she was stronger than ever ,i hope that in the next books she'll do everything that she promised.
