The queen has returned.
Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she’s at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past…
She has embraced her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight.
She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return.
The fourth volume in the New York Times bestselling series continues Celaena’s epic journey and builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.
“She was fire, and light, and ash, and embers. She was Aelin Fireheart, and she bowed for no one and nothing, save the crown that was hers by blood and survival and triumph.”
If someone will ask me someday to describe this book in a few words,my answer will be:Epic.Brilliant.Crazy.And the best story ever.
After reading Throne Of Glass,Crown of Midnight and Heir of Fire it thought that if something HUGE will happen in Queen Of Shadows i won't be suprised...Yeah,right!It was really ,really something that i didn't expect, because like i said in the review for Crown Of MIdnight ,that i expected someone to keep her promises. And she did it.Big time.
The entire time while i read this book i was constantly trying to stay calm and not read everything in a rush.I didn't want to finish the book too fast, but i admit that i was too curious and too damn excited to read everything.
And it was worth it.Every single minute.Every single chapter. And every single step.
Yeah, well,i never thought that i will admit that. *sigh*
So the fun begins!
“She was a whirling cloud of death, a queen of shadows, and these men were already carrion.”In this book a lot of crazy things happened, but Celaena(or should i say Aelin?) is determined to get her crown back and to avenge her friends, her family and all those people she lost. But her main focus is Arobynn, the man who helped her become an assassin and the man who stoled something from her.
Again, this book had so many ups and downs. There were moments when i was too shocked and there were moments when i wanted to laugh out loud. And really, moments too hard to read, because they broke my heart again and again. But after everything, after all those ups and downs something good finally happened.
The characters were amazing.Even if i already knew that, it still blew my mind everything they have done and how determined they were to fight the evil:The King.
But the Hope-hope for something better, for something to change..That was incredible.
“Elegant, feminine, and utterly wild. Warm, and steadfast—unbreakable, his queen.”
Aelin's actions in this book were a mystery for me.Being determined to do what was the best for everyone,Aelin kept many secrets and always managed to surprise me with her plans.I hated her a little for that..But ,honestly, keepin secrets wasn't that bad, after everything she was too many times betrayed.
From the beginning until the end i was a little fascinated and i admired the way Aelin planned everything. How she managed to do everything she wanted ,even if there were times when she was risking her life. But she was badass. And every single step she made it was calculated and ,yeah, crazy.
The best scene?Despite the scene where she and Dorian united their powers,i loved Aelin plans to destroy Arobynn. That guy deserved everything Aelin did to him!Eveything!
But there were moments when i thought that everything was too much for her..For her heart. She was trying to much to fight everything alone..And that alone could have put her on her knees. The weight of an entire world.
“Fae warriors: invaluable in a fight—and raging pains in her ass at all other times.”
Seriously, imagine seeing Aelin with Aedion and Rowan togheter.Three hotheaded people who were constantly trying to survive togheter but they were too stubborn and crazy.I admit that i enjoyed it every single minute.
At first i admit that i was a little dissapointed because i thought that i won't read about Rowan in this book,so imagined my surprise when he appeared!Yay!
And Aedion?I loved his reaction when he saw Aelin for the first time in this book.Injured or not,he saw her for what she was:Queen.
Both, Aedion and Rowan proved that they were capable of evertyhing in order for Aelin to get back the throne.
“They joined hands.
So the world ended.
And the next one began.”
After what happened to Dorian in Heir Of Fire..Well,i thought that in this book i will hate him.I thought that there was no hope for him, even if there were those chapter in which i realised that there was hope. His part in everything was important and the fact that he was fighting the evil in his own way.made me change my mind about him completely.Well,i never hated him and that will never happen. He is still the man i've read about in Throne of Glass, but now?He is more then that. One Word:King.
The part where he and Aelin destroyed everything? The best fight ever! And i am sooo glad that he was okay and that i didn't have to put him on the ''Turned Bad Character i loved'' list. So,welcome back,Dorian Havilliard. And be the King Adarlan needs.
“Can I see it?"
She knew what he meant, and had held up her hands before her.
Ribbons and plumes and flowers of red and gold fire danced through his room, bright and glorious and elegant.
Chaol's eyes had been lined with silver when the flames winked out. "it's lovely," he said at last.”
Chaol-oh poor,Chaol..That man never stoped to surprise me.From the beginning i knew there was something about him that made me think that he will fight for his King ,for everyone ..But step by step he changed so much and at last he saw the truth.About everything.
Really! He is still my favorite..Even if he made some mistakes and acted like he was the only one trying to help Dorian. But this book?My heart broke for him..For the boy who tried to sacrifice his life for the good. And i'm completely grateful that i will get to read more about him .
At least now i know he has a new love interest!Yay.
Nesryn Faliq-an interesting new character.Fierce, intelligent and a true friend,Nesryn Faliq was exactly what this book needed. Not for Aelin ,Aedion or Rowan, but for Chaol.I won't write more about her.
“Manon gazed westward across the mountains. Hope, Elide had said—hope for a better future. For a home. Not obedience, brutality, discipline. But hope.”
Manon Blackbeack-when i first started reading about Manon i didn't know what to think about her.Yeah, she was important and all the jazz, but i wasn't interested in knowing more, until this book.Until the moment when she and Aelin fought.Until Manon found out the truth about everything. The witches ,all those chapters about them were strange and i hoped that somehow everything will change for them. And it did! But,my opinion about Manon changed because she had a part in that scene-she gave Aelin one reason why to save Dorian.
“Ten years of shadows, but no longer. Light up the darkness, Magesty.”
The rest?Despite being the best fight i ever read about,i'm still trying to process a lot of things. And i know that things will go on and we get the read more about what will happen next.
This fight ,at least this time, was over. The King -that part changed and it was someone who deserved it,even if he didn't know how to start.Slaves?Again something that changed.Everything changed.
Aelin won one fight. She managed to give people hope..But mainly she managed to show everyone that she was capable of everything in order to save the people she loved and that the world could be a better place.
Ups and Downs. The best fight ever.Hardheaded and stubborn, but badass characters. But at least, the Light won .
One fight.Let's wait and see what will happen next.
